Our guide and driver will meet you at the dock at Khlong Toey port in Bangkok. Port fees are included in the tour price. We may need to adjust the program to the cruise timing.
This fun trip takes you southwest of Bangkok to the highlights of Samut Songkram province. After a bit more than an hour driving from Bangkok we arrive at an unusual market situated on railway track (known as “Talad Romhoop” or “market with closed umbrellas” among the locals). Watch merchants quickly fold their stall covers and move their products away from the tracks when the train is arriving. Then, see them skilfully roll tables and baskets back into position in seconds to resume their business after the train leaves.
When possible we will visit Tha Kha floating market, it follows a complicated schedule based on the lunar calendar, availability will be checked upon request. An authentic marketplace that has served the local community for 30 years, one of the hidden gems around Bangkok. Originally, the market was where fishermen and farmers came to exchange their goods. After the trip to the market, we will go on a rowing boat to explore the orchards and visit a coconut plantation to watch how coconut sugar is collected and processed. When Tha Kha is closed the included boat tour is done at Damnoen Saduak.
The most popular floating market is in Damnoen Saduak in the nearby Ratchaburi province. This very old floating market is where villagers come to buy and sell their farm produce and is open daily and visited by many tourists, in present days many of the boats are used to sell souvenirs. The market came about after a manmade canal was dug in the reign of King Rama IV to facilitate transportation by boats in the area. This canal was later named Damnoen Saduak, meaning “convenient travel”. Highlight of this market is the variety of local snacks and tropical fruits.
We will pass the salt farms on the way to the markets and can make a stop when interested. Do note that salt harvesting is seasonal and is best seen during dry season (Jan – May).
After the tour our guide and driver will bring you back to the ship.
